Situated in the remote central northeastern coast of New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea, Rubio Plantation starts on the beach and runs up into the mountains. It has many trails to explore and a cool beautiful stream that comes out of the ground at the base of a giant tree and runs for several hundred meters and then disappears again into the ground. It then resurfaces and then runs into the ocean along a white sandy beach.

Accommodation consists of bungalows, made from native materials, all located along the beachfront. The number of guests at Rubio is limited to 15 so there is never a crowd and the number of surfing guests at Rubio is limited to 10.

Rubio Plantation Retreat specialize in surfing but also offer hiking, snorkeling, fishing, bird watching and cultural tours throughout New Ireland.

LOCAL BREAK

During the season (mid-October to mid-May) the surf normally ranges from 2-6ft and can occasionally gets bigger. Rubio has a good, consistent break on its own beach and there are also many other good breaks in the area. Surf spots range from mellow longboard waves (depending on swell size and direction) to fast and hollow reef passes, with a range of both rights and lefts.

Rubio never books more than 10 surfers at one time and with the many available breaks you will never be dealing with a crowd.
