Q&A with Villa Montaña Beach Resort, Puerto Rico

Here at surftrip.guru, we want to make it as easy as possible to find the right hotel or resort for your surf trips, so we reached out to a few friends to find out a bit more and to give you a better feel for the place and the people behind it.

The first is the Villa Montaña Beach Resort, Puerto Rico, and we want to thank Yhasmina for answering a few of our questions. Enjoy!

How long have you been operating in the area?

15+ years!

Are many of your guests surfers?

I would say a good 50% of the people who visit us are into water sports, surfing, kite surfing, etc. – the other 50% are people who love the outdoors, nature, and the relaxed vibe of our small beach town

What do you do to accommodate the special requirements of surfers, like board storage, local shops for surf gear, travel to local spots?

We have good relationships with the local surf shops, and can directly link surfers with the shops for any needs they may have or to link up with ‘locals’ who can show them the best surfing spots around. We also host most world class surfers at our hotel when there are international surfing competitions in our nearby beaches. In addition, we work closely with a local company called Aquatica, who provide instructors for all beach sports, rent out gear, and can pickup surfers and take them on a tour of the island/best surf spots.

What are the best months of the year to visit for surfing?

Surfing is done year around in Puerto Rico, however July – December months are the best for sure.

What can the rest of the family or a partner do while a guest is surfing? (Spa, local attractions, etc.)

Our boutique resort offers on-site: 2 world class restaurants, 2 tennis courts, 1 children’s playground, 1 gym, 2 pools, as well as 3 miles of beachfront property. We are currently constructing our spa, named “Muse”, which should be ready late this year, so there really is no need to leave the property! However, if you do wish to, some nearby attractions include: horseback riding, golfing, zip-lining, as well as tons of amazing local beaches and small ocean-view restaurants/bars. And we can, of course, help you book any number of instructor-led water sports such as surfing, paddle-boarding, snorkeling, scuba, etc.

How does your hotel/resort fit in with and contribute to the surfing community and local community?

Our resort philosophy is based on immersing ourselves and appreciating nature and all that it provides mentally, emotionally, and physically; Villa Montana is a wonderful place to connect with nature and the ocean! We are located in a famous surf town in Puerto Rico, on one of the best beaches of the island, and are proud to partner with local surf shops and surfing competitions.

Anything else?

The North-West Coast of Puerto Rico offers the best surfing spots on the island, staying at Villa Montana offers a short commute to all of these local hot spots!
