Noah’s Surf House

Overlooking one of Portugal’s most stunning coastlines, Noah Surf House is a beautiful and unique haven, ideal for beach and surf getaways.

On arrival it is hard not to notice the wonderfully eclectic décor, which had all been hand chosen by its owner. Varying from converted pianos, hanging fishing nets from the local area, and surf boards adorning most walls you are immediately swept into a world dedicated to the sea. The stunning views visible from all three of their terraces provide ideal lookout opportunities for surfers wanting to check the sets coming in, or for the less active, the pool and jacuzzi allow you to admire the ocean from the comfort of your sun lounger.

The hotel operates an all-day bar and restaurant, providing local dishes as well as some of the more regular holiday snacks. The local area does not have many other good dining options, so it is also worth noting that there is also a fully equipped kitchen which all guests are welcome to use. Other amenities include the skateboard ramp on the first level, which seemed to appeal to young surfers and kids, as well as the organic vegetable garden, gym (for private training) and the surf school.

The bungalow rooms are simple yet very tasteful. They are individually dotted around the land surrounding the main hotel, with views over the ocean, private balconies, and log fires (as it can get chilly at night).

With a name dedicated to the sport, it is hardly surprising that the surf options at Noah are exceptional. Not only are the staff always on-hand to advise you on conditions, and help arrange lessons, but they also track the surf throughout the area, so are able to offer insight into the best spots, should you want to venture further than the beaches on your doorstep. The surf lessons are meticulously managed. Small classes, with qualified instructors ensure great fun to be had by all. For those who are more secure on their boards, the coast line offers breaks for all standards of surfer….so there is something for everyone.

Saunton Sands

This may not be the prettiest or most exotic hotel for aspiring surfers but it has three very strong cards to play when it comes to a surftrip. Firstly it is beachfront to one of the easiest and best beginners waves in the world. Secondly despite being a monstrosity to look at from the outside, inside it is a solid 4 Star Hotel with all the frills. Thirdly it overlooks one of the most stunning areas of natural beauty in the UK, the Saunton Sand Dunes, as well as the Saunton Sands Golf Club, our Editors favourite course in the UK! For a beginner surfer or if you are trying to get your kids into the sport in relative safety, this is the spot!

Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi

A definitive surfers lifetime destination, regarded as the No.1 surf hotel in the Maldives. A world class left hander that breaks over a shallow reef makes it a surfers paradise. The 4-star resort offers accommodation with spectacular views of the beach and garden. Guests can also choose to stay in the Ocean Villas. The restaurants, bars, tennis courts, swimming pool, gym and its own private beach make it the ideal destination for the discerning holiday maker.

Turtle Bay

The North Shore’s only proper hotel where you will find yourself within sight of the great breaks that thump into the most famous surfing coastline in the world. Turtle Bay has all the luxury of a modern hotel, while offering proximity to the proving ground for surfers. Oddly the North Shore has almost no decent hotels, so the choices are renting a house or enjoying the area from this all catering hotel.
